Title:
The Skies
Slicethepie Success story Slicethepie, the new music portal that enables fans to directly finance their favourite bands, has completed finance on its third band; just 4 weeks after launching. And it’s the sweetest one yet…
The Skies, a highly rated four piece rock band from Reading, have raised over £15,000 worth of funding directly from music fans and investors and will now go on to record their debut album.
The Skies’ success marks a remarkable change in fortunes for the band; in particular for Rikki-Lee, the band’s founder and lead singer, who just a few years ago was sleeping rough. Many of the band’s songs were composed by Rikki while he was on the streets, or written about the life experiences he had when homeless. Now through hard work and determination, and a bit of magic from Slicethepie, Rikki and the Skies have realised their dream of financing an album. The Skies’ success brings the total funding on Slicethepie to over £50,000.
The Reading foursome’s debut single reached number 26 in last week’s HMV Download chart, the only unsigned act in their top 100, and it is expected that the band will continue to raise further investment over the next few weeks.
The Slicethepie model, where fans provide direct finance to artists and in return share in their financial success, is fast gaining momentum and the rapid succession of bands reaching funding underlines the strength of the Slicethepie revolution.
After only 1 month, the site has already attracted over 2,500 bands and many thousands of registered users; and Slicethepie is now set to carve out a leading role in the fast moving transformation of the global music industry.
Last week, Slicethepie launched its first Scout Room where music fans are able to scout for unsigned bands, review music and in the process earn up to 25p per review. In essence allowing users to become bona fide music journalists whose reviews will determine which bands make it through to financing.
David Courtier-Dutton, CEO, commented: “With three bands already financed and many more in the pipeline, Slicethepie is beginning to gain significant traction. The Skies have attracted a passionate following of fans and investors from all over the globe and we are delighted to have helped them achieve their dream.”
The first band to take advantage of the Slicethepie revolution was Gilkicker, who released their first single ‘That Day’ on Monday (02.07.07). They were closely followed by The Alps who reached funding two weeks ago (05.07.07).
The Skies’ single, ‘Bring It On’ is now available to purchase online.
